Vessel-Ride for Dominican
On August 22nd We begin a bycicle journey accross the state of South Dakota. The ride will take us through the Black Hills and Badlands National Park and then leave us running parallel to interstate 90 in Southern South Dakota. The treck will be about 450 miles. While we enjoy the bike ride, there is something far greater on our minds. The Center in Santiago, Dominican Republic is a school that reaches out specifically to children in a neighborhood called "the hole". Having been to the school 8 times I have personally been shocked by the transformation in the students lives. I would describe some elements of the first trip as absolutely chaotic, while on this last trip in June, the 84 students we served for 3 days in a row sat respectfully, listened generally well, and lined up well after each of our events. They still had a blast playing games and being kids, don't get me wrong, they are still children, but the ability to teach well increases so much as they behaved. The school currently has 5 teachers and their budget for teachers is about $9,600 US dollars a year (can you believe that!?). We would love your help in this. Thank you for your consideration.
